Artist Talks, Juror Talks and Curator Talks OH MY!

I am sure you know, or maybe you don't, that after every single art exhibit at the Sanchez Art Center there is either an artist talk, by the artist who shows their work in the main gallery, or a juror or curator talk by the exhibition juror or curator or sometimes both!   The talks take place in the main gallery on the closing day of the exhibit and there are always refreshments, wine, juice, water, brownies, coffee and snacks of all types generously provided by the Art Guild of Pacifica.

This past show, the Left Coast Annual, was no exception.  On Sunday afternoon, a large group of artists and art lovers and the plain curious enjoyed listening to juror Michael Schwager, Professor of Art History and Museum Studies and Director of the University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University as he described the process he went through in choosing 54 works of art by 48 artists from a pool of over 500 artworks submitted by 180 artists from all over California.  After his talk Professor Schwager spoke about each piece of art for the accepted artists who were present.

In years past the Sanchez Art Center has hosted artists talks by some very well known and famous artists from all over California.  If you haven't had a chance to attend one of these events you need to make sure to mark your calendar for the next talk at the close of  the 2010 and 2011 Rydell Fellowship Award Winners Exhibition, when the public is invited to a talk by the exhibition curator, Susan Hillhouse Leask (Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Museum of Art & History in Santa Cruz), along with artist Andy Ruble on Sunday July 1st at 4 pm.  I hope to see you there.
